Welcome to The Professor Julius Okojie Central Research Laboratory (PJOCRL)
STEP-B Centre of Excellence for food Security
Initially known as Central Research Laboratory, PJOCRL took off temporarily in 2010 with only one functional equipment (Minipal 4 Spectrometer) and two partially installed (HPLC & Freeze Dryer) in one of the three Laboratory Spaces located within the Postgraduate Laboratory II Building behind the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS). The PJOCRL was officially commissioned at the year 2012 edition of the University’s Convocation ceremony, with four additional equipment, thus bringing the total number of university procured equipment to seven. However, the present bulk of equipment at the Centre was acquired as part of the execution of the STEP-B Project.
The concept of Central Research Laboratory in Nigerian Universities has been a response to the need to achieve cost-effectiveness in the provision of modern, expensive and state-of-the-art facilities, centrally, for qualitative instruction of both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and to enhance the quality of research in wide range of disciplines.
The laboratory is accredited by the Federal Ministry of Environment to operate as Environmental Consultant.
In a bid to realize her noble objective, the Management of the Central Laboratory establishes a critical mass of academics and technologists with requisite knowledge of the operations of each item of major equipment by organizing hands-on trainings regularly.
